Harlan and Kaye Housing Proposal
Summary
Build a DADU (Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit) where Maria and James' garage is. This would move Mom & Dad close to much of the family and make it convenient for Maria to advise Mom & Dad and the rest the family on health issues and needs, and other family members to more easily help with financial issues, computer issues, and quality of life issues.
Seattle encourages the construction of these and has pre-approved designs which would speed construction and limit expenses. We are confident this can be done for $150,000 and we'd propose the buildout be funded by a HELOC against the Boise house (John has experience and would assist with this), and then paid off when the Boise house is sold. It would be small -- approximately 600 square feet.

Advantages
- Convenient to Maria, who has the best knowledge of elderly care
- Convenient to 3 of the kids and 3 of the grandkids
- Maria's house (and probably Peter's) could host guests visiting
Disadvantages
- Very limited space (might have put this in Advantages?)
- Away from Boise friends and social life
Longer Term
- When Mom and Dad are no longer able to live in the DADU, due to life end or need for greater medical assistance, Maria and James would likely use the DADU as a rental.
